There’s been some good work done on Saturday mornings at Margate CC by Thamsanqa Xolo and Elvis Khawula.

They were thanked by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor Cynthia Nomusa Mqwebu for their efforts, which are bearing fruit.

Winners on the day were Sbu Ntozakhe, Ronnie Mtshaka, Elvis Khawula and Sisa Njongwe.

Ronnie had one of his better games in a while, returning a level par 71, but it was Khawula who provided the fireworks with a four under par 67.

It’s his best round for a long time and he thinks the inspiration may have come from his daughter Lorraine, who is part of the academy and has shown an interest in the game.

Njongwe is formerly from Margate but now lives in Johannesburg and is a member at Randpark Golf Club.

“He phoned looking for a game, we were one short, so I said join us,” said Khawula.

Njongwe may have shot 84 off his 11 handicap, but he certainly joined a group where two of the four were in hot form.
