Record year for bass fishermen

The fish-off on the Sunday was a slow start to the new season as the weather was cold and the fish were hiding.

The South Coast Bass Club recently held their annual general meeting and prize-giving at Oasis dam on Luke Dunstone’s farm.

It was an excellent venue where the club members spent the night and then held their first fish-off of the new angling season the day after.

The top anglers were awarded excellent prizes, thanks to great sponsorship by Luckys and club members.

Club chairman Thys Hoffman (left), Boet Stewart (vice-chairman) and Anthony Card (secretary/treasurer) were among the recipients of awards.

The two ‘kokorotkoppe’ – Boet and Thys – did it again.

Club champion for the third year in a row (a club record) was Boet, who fished like a true champion throughout the season, landing quality fish.

Biggest fish for the season went to club chairman, Thys Hoffman, with a club record fish of 4.34kg.

He bagged this prize for the fourth year in row, another club record.

The ‘Poophol’s prize’ went to Anthony Card for catching a possible record fish, putting it on his keep chain but then it broke loose and swam away before he could weigh it.

The prize for most dedicated angler went to JJ Eales who put in many hours of hard fishing and who has been a real asset to the club.

A new committee was elected: Thys Hoffman (chairman), Boet Stewart (vice-chairman), Bert van Wyk (weigh master), Rory Bezuidenhout (secretary/treasurer), assisted by Anthony Card.

The fish-off on the Sunday was a slow start to the new season as the weather was cold and the fish were hiding.

Members are sorry to say goodbye to Joggie and Cheryl de Winnaar and JJ Eales who are leaving the club.

They are thanked for their hard work during the year.

It’s also goodbye to Brian Steyn who will be joining the KZN Small Craft League in the hopes of making the provincial team.

‘Stywe lyne’ to the new committee and to all old and new members alike.
