Bryony and John fly high with Eagles

With gatherings not being allowed, there was no official prize giving, but that did not mean that there were no prizes.

Golf was once described as a game where you meet on the first tee as total strangers and leave the car park as BFFs (that’s best friends forever, for those over 60).

It is common knowledge that no matter what your golfing skills are you will never be a good golfer unless you can play the 19th hole well.

Now under the adjusted lockdown, I believe the car park has become the most important part of the golf course as restricted access to clubhouses, change rooms and bars greet golfers each time we play.

That said, we are just very grateful that we can, even under different circumstances, enjoy our favourite pastime.

This month the Village Eagles flew north and landed at Umkomaas.

Well, let me rephrase that – some of the Eagles flew north.

With some 30% of the Eagles now nesting at the new Widenham Retirement Village and playing their golf at Umkomaas, the term ‘home game’ was heard more than once.

Once again Umkomaas did a great job of hosting the Eagles.

Thanks to the ground staff for a well-manicured golf course.

With gatherings not being allowed, there was no official prize giving, but that did not mean that there were no prizes.

Winners on the day were Mervyn Perry, Norman Mackay, Glen Scott and Stella Scott on a nice round 90 points.

Best lady golfer was Bryony Rogers and best male golfer was John Snyders.

At the risk of no longer being their BFF, I can advise that Jeremy Boyd, Janet Boyd, Eddie Hattingh and Miles Kendrick lifted the coveted Stone Trophy.

Next month the Village Eagles do something for the needy and we will be at Umdoni for our fundraising charity day.
