Brown and Simpson outclass field

Colin Moodie had the dubious distinction of lifting the Stone with Mick Marriot but collected the hidden holes with which to pay their fines.

Bit of a change in the weather fronts at Scottburgh Golf Club this week. The shorts came out and the smiles returned, but beware of the sting, the Kaapies are going to send some more frosties up next week. Nice to see the mpitis out on the course and, of course, the grey crowned storks parading around the seventh fairway – now for the yellow billed hawks.

Combined Stableford is the game where your partner remains your friend or becomes your ‘enama’. Still friends and speaking highly of one another are Denis Brown and Wayne Simpson who outclassed the rest of the field with their 66 points. Dave Sirey and Anton Visage tried to run them close, but came up eight points short on 58.

The ladies played a threeball Alliance on Saturday with Debbie du Toit, Mandy Jones and Lauren Davey back after a spell away – probably refining her golf – winning with 76 points.

This was three ahead of second placed Esme Hadley, Pathma Moodley and Hayley Gilliver.

It was a cut and paste job for the men as they played the monthly Betterball Stableford sponsored by P&G Construction as Denis Brown and Wayne Simpson once again took the honours with their 44 points.

Allan Eriksen and Gary Jones ran them a close second with 42 and Tony Power and Brian Richards third with 41. Gareth Walker, Nick Bremner and Graham Brown all picked up 2-clubs and once again Mick Marriot picked up the Stone, this time with the help of Geoff Thommasen.

Sitting in the bar after prizegiving, having a delicious looking supper complete with a nice bottle of red, were the two Petes and their wives, the men who I’m told were paying their bets.

Flyer’s footnote: Definition of a gimme is an agreement between two players both suffering with the yips.
