Golf prize awaits for the quick and accurate

This formed part of the Nashua open day and the fourball managed a time of 34.19 seconds.

Fancy your fourball as quick players? You could win R5000 if you really are that fast and accurate.

You may have seen long hitting sensation Wilco Nienaber form part of a four man team which set a new Guinness Book of Records time for fastest hole by four players.

The team of Sean Crocker, Nicolai Højgaard, Min Woo Lee and Wilco clocked 24.75 seconds, with Wilco belting a colossal drive, Sean flicking a wedge to a few feet and Min Woo knocking in a short putt. Nicolai held the flag, but was there in the event the ball landed elsewhere on the green.

Meet the team, (from left) David Rush, Derek James, Jean-Marc Bouic, and Gavin Sole.

Closer to home, Southbroom’s winning Interclub team of Gavin Sole, David Rush and Jean-Marc Bouic was joined by professional Derek James in an attempt to see how fast they could play the 18th hole.

This formed part of the Nashua open day and the fourball managed a time of 34.19 seconds.

Gavin hit the tee-shot, Derek a 3-wood in to the back of the green, from where David almost holed a long putt for eagle, leaving Jean-Marc to finish it off with a short putt up the hill.

They had a few goes at it, for sure. Jan Roos used his drone to record the action as players cheered – and groaned – as the fourball attempted to get in a score under 30 seconds.

The day before they had practised, but in a howling south-westerly wind, where Derek was hitting an 8 or 9 iron in.

David had initially hit the tee shots and Gavin the second, but after running from side to side across the fairway, the Big Fish had had enough.

“Give me the driver,” he muttered.

David for his part could not stop laughing. watching the newly dubbed Fast Fish dash across the fairway.

“It was priceless, like watching windscreen wipers in the rain. Who knew he had such pace?” said David.

“I’ve lost weight,” was all Gavin could say.

Nashua has put up a prize of R5000 for the first team to beat this time. For more info about how to enter, contact the pro shop on 039 3166051.

Be warned though, it’s not as easy as it might look.

And waiting for the ball to stop can seem to take an absolute age.

One thing is guaranteed though, it’s great fun.
