Banquet completes successful year for darts association

A moment of silence was observed for members and loved ones who lost their lives this year.

Having only been established this year, the Margate Darts Association (MDA) held its first banquet at its clubhouse at the Douglas Mitchell Sport Bar last Saturday.

The night featured plenty of light hearted humour coupled with team and individual accolades that were awarded to all club members.

Alphas A were crowned the Eddie’s Auto 4-A-Side champions for 2021. They are (from left) Dezlyn Smithwick, Roshan Chattergoon, Aphelele Manyala, Solomzi Maquthu, Navikar Maharaj and Mike Holloway.

MDA president KG Moodley spoke of how the resilience and dedication of the members contributed to what was a successful first season.

“Our tournaments were disrupted and we even had to decrease the number of tournaments. To an extent, this had an effect on the morale of our members. But credit must be given to our members for being patient and totally committed. We still had a brilliant season,” he said.

Neville Naidoo, the PRO for the MDA, delivers the ‘state of the association’ address during the banquet last Saturday.

The coveted Lucky’s Sports, Fishing, Arms, and Ammo Singles league was won by Ashley Nair, ahead of Solomzi Maquthu, the only player to beat Nair this season.

The Super Auto 3-A-Side League was won by Lions Red, who edged out Alphas Kwasakwasa to snatch the inaugural title. KG Naidoo and Ashley Nair won the MDA Doubles Knockout.

“We thank our sponsors for being on this journey with us. It was a successful first year for the club. Our association is made up of two clubs: Lions Darts Club and Alphas Darts Club and we would like to thank both clubs for their dedication to the club,” said PRO Neville Naidoo.
