Striders take on Hillcrest Marathon
South Coast Striders members rose to the occasion, demonstrating their commitment to the sport.
Perfect running conditions greeted runners at the Rolando Hillcrest Marathon held on February 9, a race that doubled as the South Coast Striders’ 42km club championships.
A strong contingent of runners turned out for the event, with 14 tackling the full marathon distance and another 10 taking part in the half marathon.
The men’s marathon saw a gutsy victory for Peter Brino Chidzungu, who not only claimed the club championship title but also finished an impressive eighth overall and second in his age category.

His performance was particularly remarkable considering his heavy fall at the 8km mark. His resilience and determination shone through as he battled back to secure the win.
The women’s race proved to be a closely contested affair, with just 49 seconds separating the top three finishers.
Deborah Berridge emerged victorious, taking first place, followed closely by Victoria Forshaw in second and Ziyanda Adonis in third.
The tight competition highlighted the depth of talent within the South Coast Striders’ women’s running group.
The Rolando Hillcrest Marathon, known for its challenging course, lived up to its reputation this year, testing the endurance and mental strength of all.

Striders recently held their annual general meeting, where Adeline Jacobs was re-elected as chairman.
