Team Sweden sweep to Shoot Out success
Course staff were able to get the course into good condition despite the heavy rain in the days before the tournament.
The Southbroom International Shoot Out, held over two days at Southbroom Golf Club last week, attracted golfers from near (local), far (upcountry) and very far (Europe).
The Shoot Out, as it’s more affectionately known, has always been a fun tournament hosted for local and foreign members and friends of Southbroom.
The weather wreaked havoc on the coast in the days before the tournament, but as bad as the weather had been, the rain subsided on Friday morning, just before the tournament was due to tee off.
Friday turned into a wonderfully calm, overcast day, perfect for those teeing it up for their shot at glory.
Two teams played particularly well.
Defending champions Pot Pourri, consisting of Louise Leal, Thierry Rambeau, Stephan and Ruth Egbert, put together a solid 85 points, ensuring they would be in contention for the final round.
They were pipped by one shot by Shoot Out regulars, Team Sweden consisting of Christer Solgevik, Precious Mkhungo, Werner Duggan and Jurgen Feeder.
On Saturday, the sun came out, and with the sun, the players were greeted with a gentle north-easterly wind to both test them and cool them down.
Pot Pourri put together a respectable final day score of 78 points, taking them up to 163 points for the tournament, following their title defence with a third place finish.
Steady Wobblers, consisting of Nicky Smith, Jack Moulder, Phil Verwey and Russel Mackenzie, finished strongly, leading Saturday’s points tally with 85 points and shooting up the leaderboard to a second placed overall finish with 165 points.
Although pushed all the way, Team Sweden had enough in them to see off all the competition and close the tournament out, ultimately finishing on 169 points, four clear of the Steady Wobblers.
