Koekemoer blitz takes Challengers to victory
The boys play the sport with a lot of passion.
Jaydon Koekemoer starred with the bat as the RC Challengers won a tense final against South Coast Snipers in the SKZN Autumn 100 junior tournament last Saturday afternoon.
Snipers batted first and made 107-6 in 20 overs (five-ball overs), with Khulu Mlondo (33) and Bertu van Reenen (22) top-scoring.
At one stage, Snipers were 76 without loss after 11 overs before Zibu Malamba finally broke the partnership by bowling Mlondo.
Batting at the Tweni End was not easy, and wickets fell regularly in the second half of the innings.
Still, 107 looked to be a decent, defendable score. And it appeared the Snipers would do that, with Challengers 54-6 at the halfway mark of their innings.
However, Koekemoer, who had opened the batting and watched his teammates come and go at the other end, had other ideas and smashed his way to 61 with four fours and six sixes.

Riley Buys provided some energetic support, chipping and flicking his way to a crucial 13 not out.
Koekemoer was finally dismissed in the 15th over when the scores were level. The next ball was a wide down-the-leg side and the winning run.
Challengers comprised Jaydon Koekemoer, Shaden Ellapen, Daniel Rush (captain), Marcel van Etteryk, Orlando Lombard, Stiaan Fritz, Riley Buys, Lutho Menziwa, Tristan Eva (wkt), Ndumiso Mwelase (vice-captain) and Zibu Malamba.
