Clay Turrell scoops surfing title
The teen from Southport has been training extremely hard.
Clay Turrell (18) from Southport is stoked to have won the U18 division of the Sea Harvest Pipe Junior surfing tournament recently.
Louise Lepront from Scottburgh beat Emily Jenkinson into second in the girl’s division, while Turrell took the win from Levi Epenetos in the boy’s section.
Both finals were hard-fought in the small, running right-handers.
Tom Pearson, also from Ugu Surfriders, achieved third place in the U12 boys division.
Turrell, who has been surfing since the age of three, said he is feeling super stoked about his win.
“I still feel like I have more in the tank so I can’t wait to come back even stronger in the next one,” said Turrell.
Turrell says he has been training hard and pushing himself every day for seven days a week.
Which spot is Turrell’s favourite break? Scarborough Beach in Cape Town.
He is now training in Port Alfred for the SA Opens Champs on April, and 16 and 17.
Turrell is the top seed for the Ugu Surfriders Open Team.
He will also be competing in the Rip Curl GromSearch, which is taking place at East Beach from April 18 to 20.
