Walkers brave cold to Ramsgate Beach

The fourth leg will be held from Ramsgate Beach to Southbroom Beach on June 22.

Many walkers tackled leg three of the Shoreline Challenge on Sunday. It was a bit cold and windy, but it was perfect for a morning walk along the beautiful coastline.

The route started at Lucien Beach to Ramsgate Beach, and the volunteers from the Ramsgate Conservancy made sure that all was well for the 5.5km trek.

Ready for their beach trek are (from left) Poobi Gounder with Nilosh and Vani Pather.

Mzimkhulu Honorary Officer Maxine Willemse reported that 135 walkers took part.

The Shoreline Challenge is an annual event organised by the Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers.

Adriaan Wessels and Antoinette Wood are togged up.

The challenge is broken down into eight different walks of between five to seven kilometres held on a Sunday, over the course of four months – May to August.

“For the next leg we encourage learners from different schools to take part. The fourth leg will be held from Ramsgate Beach to Southbroom Beach on June 22. It is a 5.4km stretch. The fifth leg will be from Southbroom Beach to Mpenjati on July 13 and will be a 6.96 km walk,” said Maxine.

Piet and Nelia Heydeman all set for their walk.

Paddy Norman is ready to go.
