Ugu district police take on gruelling Comrades marathon challenge

Their endurance is a demonstration of their high levels of fitness and is an inspiration to others to join the Ugu Athletics Club.

After months of consistent training, sound eating habits and the mental resoluteness to engage in one of the most demanding marathons ever, police members of Ugu District woke at the crack of dawn to participate in the Comrades Marathon.

Ugu District Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, is proud of her members who engaged in this gruelling race.

“Their endurance is a demonstration of their high levels of fitness and is an inspiration to others to join the Ugu Athletics Club. Members are regularly called up for fitness assessments, shooting practise and encouraged to participate in the National Sporting Codes. Enhanced physical and physiological fitness greatly improves the members ability to effectively confront suspects who try to flee or resist arrest” she said.
