SA colours for junior Scottburgh surfer

Surfing South Africa recently announced the team to represent the country at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

Leah Lepront of Scottburgh has followed in the rather large surfing footsteps of her older siblings Luc and Louise in earning her national junior colours.

Surfing South Africa recently announced the team to represent the country at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, with Leah one of three U16 girls chosen.

Louise, meanwhile, is part of the U18 team, the third time she has earned her junior colours.

The team also comprises three U16 boys, three U18 girls and three U18 boys, so 12 in all.

The date and location of the champs have yet to be announced.

Leah’s cause was helped, no doubt, by a win in the premier U16 division at the recent Rip Curl GromSearch, presented by The Royal St Andrews Hotel and supported by Sea Harvest.

Her two U16 teammates are Emily Jenkinson (Kommetjie), who will be surfing for South Africa for the second time, and Zahra Ndlovu, a promising up-and-coming surfer from Cape Town, who receives her first cap.

The U16 boys are Ben Esterhuyse (Camps Bay), Kai Stubbs (Scarborough) and Melokuhle Zotshana (Durban), the latter being named as the most improved junior at the KZN surfing champs earlier this year. The U18 boys are Kai Hall, Matt Canning and Siyanda Hewitt, all from Durban. The other two U18 girls are Taylor Emslie (East London) and Maxine Kauffman (Durban).

The ISA World Junior Surfing Championships is the largest junior surfing event in the world, bringing together more than 40 nations.

South Africa has a proud history at this event and continues to build a strong legacy of competitive success and international recognition.
