Renishaw Ramblers keep fit while golfing

Players joining weekly games on courses along the coast.

Golf is still recognised as one of the best sports for retirees, and with the variety of pristine golf courses around the mid-South Coast, enthusiasts are spoiled for choice.

Golfers such as the Renishaw Ramblers group, enjoy the sport for the mental stimulation, social interaction and physical exercise.

The Renishaw Ramblers head out onto the course several times in a week, and visit different clubs along the South Coast.

Selborne Golf Club offers a beautiful course to golfing enthusiasts.

Arno de Wet, club chairman said that they normally have between 16 and 24 players joining weekly games.

“We play three times a month at Scottburgh Golf Club and once a month at another course such as Umdoni, Umkomaas, or Selborne.”

Pensioners can keep fit while improving flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular health. Walking the course promotes endurance and mobility, while the swing motion strengthens muscles and improves balance, which is an important factor in preventing falls later in life.

The strategic nature of golf keeps the mind sharp, while time spent outdoors in scenic surroundings helps reduce stress and improve mood.
