Challengers unbeaten in Sportweni cricket tournament

Academy cricketers were in the thick of things during the Sportweni winter tournament.

RC Colts and Snipers resumed their friendly rivalry in a 50 over contest, and also got to playing visiting team Alberton High School in two T20 fixtures each.

Unfortunately, some unexpected rain on the previous weekend made for some logistical challenges and some adjustments, but in the end it all worked out.

In between all this the Challengers headed up to Scottburgh to play a 50 over game against the Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA).

There was some exhilarating cricket played, with the Snipers, Challengers and CMCA never failing to disappoint.

Elijah Langton (Challengers) scored a century against Alberton and later in the week took five wickets against Snipers.

Saien Chetty (Challengers) took a sensational 7-3 against Alberton.

Jacques de Bruin (Snipers) also picked up a five wicket haul, against Alberton, with Ali Ashgar making a half century in the same match.

One of the highlights of the Snipers-Challengers game was seeing Manqoba Mlambo, aged only eight years old and on as a substitute fielder, take a catch at mid off to see prolific run scorer Khulu Mlondo dismissed.

There was also a special moment when cousins Karlo Jacobs and Declyn Cilliers batted together in a match for the first time.

Venues used were Creston College, Suid-Natal High, Port Shepstone CC and Scottburgh CC.
