Margate Darts Association (MDA) earned three podium finishes at the Darts South Africa national championships in Bellville, Cape Town, where provincial and district teams and associations gathered for a 10-day tournament.

MDA represented part of the KZN youth team, which comprised Donovan Collins, Henry Steyn, Rakesh Harripersadh (manager of the boys’ team), Abigail Scaife and Demi Toop.

The boys’ team showed accuracy and composure in a series of high-pressure games, and Donovan Collins hit his first 180, while the girls’ team came third.

Sureshni Naicker from MDA was part of the KZN ladies’ team. The team battled a highly competitive field to secure second place. Their consistency and teamwork stood out, earning them recognition as one of the strongest squads in the tournament.

A men’s team of Roshan Chattergoon, Tony Premnadu, Solly Maquthu, Avikar Maharaj and Manoj Lautan (manager) competed in the inter-association section, with
Rion Van Zyl and Riaal Rampersad making their debut at the competition.

The inter-association team impressed, clinching second place in their division. They finished as runners-up with a one-leg difference; several 180s were hit, and Riaal Rampersad hit his first 180. Their run was marked by precision play and resilience against some of the country’s toughest opponents.

“These results highlight the growing strength of darts in the region. The achievements not only bring prestige to the association, but also inspire younger players to aim for national success,” said MDA chairperson Jason Govender.
