Country music heads south
Cowboys and cowgirls packed Pistols Saloon to listen to this legendary country artist.
LEGENDARY country artist Clive Bruce and the band, Reflex played to a full house at Pistols Saloon in Ramsgate last Saturday.
Clive made his first recording with a band as the bass guitarist. He improved, picking up keyboards, drums, guitar, and other instruments along the way. His stepmother, Virginia Lee – the ‘Queen of Song’ of the early ‘60s, introduced him to the recording studios and he was hooked on this profession from then on.
He recorded ‘Sally Sunshine’ in 1970, which went to number one on the then popular LM Radio Top 20, and scored high in the South African Top 20. Musically, at that time, he spent much of his career doing radio adverts. One of his more unusual small achievements of that time was being the first voice of ‘Sarel Seemonster’ on the popular Afrikaans TV show called ‘Wielie Walie’.
His first album ‘Sally Sunshine’ was in 1970, and his first country album ‘Ruby, don’t take your love to town’ was released in 1978. When television first came on to the scene he appeared with the band ‘Timepiece’, and thereafter was invited to do solo spots on various shows and several new year specials.
He has been fortunate enough to sing in the Sun City Superbowl several times and travelled and performed all around the country, occasionally getting together with people such as Billy Forest, Barbara Ray, Lance James, Bobby Angel, Sally Vaughn, Jody Wayne, and many up and coming talented artists.
