Sports and Classics Fun Day revved things up
Cars, modern to classic, were the order of the day.
THERE were bouquets all round for the organiser, Naveen Pillay, when he turned up the revs at the Sports and Classics Fun Day at St Martin de Porres grounds last Saturday.
The event saw a number of classic and modern cars on display, together with food stalls, a kiddies’ play area and a mystery car unveiling.
Most of the cars, though, represented happy times for car fanciers who still know how to rock ’n roll.
More than any other type of vehicle, a classic car engenders plenty of nostalgia. A once much-coveted MG, cute Minis, ostentatiously finned petrol guzzlers, zippy British and American sports cars and even mom’s faithful little Ford Anglia – all evoked memories of beloved first cars and of an era when cars were part of the family.
“I wish I had one of those!” was perhaps the most-heard exclamation of the day. The show has set a high standard for subsequent events. The turnout of both cars and visitors was wonderful.
The weather was perfect and so was the catering and general organisation. The great music playing over the sound system added to the fair atmosphere. If this high standard is maintained, this annual car festival could well grow into a major motoring event.
