When the cost of the perfect selfie is your life…
For some, the ‘likes’ a selfie will get may be more valuable than life.
Everybody wants to take the perfect selfie. In order to do so, a lot of attention is paid on the lighting of your background, finding the right angles and filters.
Some people try too hard to get what’s considered the ‘perfect selfie’ and this can at times be risky. If you’re going for something to make the crowd go ‘wow’, you’re going to want to try and do something not everyone has done or at least tried to do.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Taking ‘selfies’ while driving can lead to death
According to Wikipedia, here are some of the most recent accidents all caused because of a selfie gone too far:
In India, a man who was recording a selfie video was struck by a train.
The video shows him recording himself and ignoring the warning signs of the approaching train. He survived but was seriously injured.
Earlier this year, a Colombian teenage girl fell to her death while trying to take a selfie at a waterfall.
Also this year, a young Croatian boy, who attempted to take a selfie on the top of a train, was electrocuted and died instantly.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: How to take the perfect selfie
Records show that the most common selfies causing death happen around trains or around heights where people fall to their deaths.
A case was even recorded here in South Africa in 2015, in which a 21-year-old girl died after falling from Northciff Hill in Johannesburg as her friend was setting up a tripod selfie.
This just shows the risks some people are willing to take not to let a selfie opportunity get past them. For some, the ‘likes’ a selfie will get may be more valuable than life.
