Popular Durban run is back

The DurbanNite Night Race, a monthly 5km run/walk, is set to light up the city once again.

Durban’s most anticipated night run is back and better than ever.

The DurbaNite Night Race, a monthly 5km run/walk, is set to light up the city once again, bringing together fitness enthusiasts and families for a year of fun-filled, community-driven events.

Taking place at the Marine Walk Shopping Centre in Umdloti, the race kicks off at 18:00 on the last Thursday of every month, offering participants the perfect mix of road and trail running under the enchanting African night sky.

The DurbaNite Race provides an inclusive and exciting platform for everyone, whether you’re a beginner exploring the joys of fitness or a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best.

With a route that changes every two months, participants can look forward to fresh scenery and new challenges throughout the year.

“We started this series with the aim of inspiring people to stay active by providing a safe space to exercise, especially towards the evening,” said Phindi Gule-Burley (race organiser).

“Most importantly, we wanted to create fun-filled and unforgettable experiences for runners and walkers alike. Last year, we definitely saw the momentum growing, and every month, we aim to deliver a race that keeps participants coming back for more.”

A huge emphasis is placed on safety, with Excellerate Security ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience every month.

The route is cordoned off, and marshals are stationed throughout to cheer and guide participants along the way.

This year, regular participants stand the chance to win a fully paid family trip to Cape Town for four. To qualify, runners need to complete 11 out of 12 races in 2025 (T&Cs apply).

The January race was held last week. Save the date for upcoming races this year: February 27, March 27, April 24, May 29, June 26, July 31, August 28, September 25, October 30, November 27 and December 16.
