The ceremony was attended by fellow Rotarians from across the district as well as local Lions Club members, in addition to friends and family of Odendaal, who celebrated the beginning of his term as president alongside him.
Outgoing president Gumbi said during his speech that he and his fellow Rotarians are going to support Riaan 100%, and emphasised the high level of trust the club has in its new president.
“I am handing this chain over to a man that I respect,” said Gumbi.

Odendaal grew up in a Rotarian house, with both his parents being Paul Harris Awardees, the highest award a member can achieve.
“This is a special night in the story of my life. It is a huge honour. Now I walk in the footsteps of many distinguished past presidents. We as Rotarians will continue to make a difference and I look forward to the year ahead,” said Odendaal.
