Metro police enforce by-law compliance in Isipingo

The by-law enforcement operation resulted in more than 20 fines being issued.

AS PART of its ongoing quest to ensure adherence to eThekwini Municipality’s by-laws and compliance with the City’s regulations, the metro police recently conducted various operations in Isipingo, which included business compliance inspections, stop-and-searches, and traffic control.

Metro police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said the operation’s successes included the closure of a business operating without a valid business licence. The business was also allegedly selling expired goods, which were confiscated and destroyed.

“We also issued several fines for traffic violations, which were 20 for obstruction, five for pavement parking, five for unlicensed motor vehicles, one for parking facing oncoming traffic, and one for failure to comply with the instructions of a police officer,” said Zungu.

Other removals from public spaces were:

• Three illegal structures demolished
• 51 pallets crushed and removed
• 89 cardboard boxes removed
• 46 crates removed
• 31 buckets removed
• Nine chairs removed
• Six tables removed
• Six homeless people removed
