THE SPIRIT of community football was in full view at the Seva Bhakti Foundation Charity Cup, held at Kamalinee Primary School’s indoor football courts on July 11.

The non-profit organisation were delighted to host 17 teams in its senior division, with football fanatics travelling from Durban North to be part of the event.

Rizwaana Cassim, of Seva Bhakti Foundation, said it was an incredible day for the sport, the spirit of giving back and for the Isipingo community.

“It was truly inspiring to witness the passion, dedication, sportsmanship and team spirit displayed by every team throughout the tournament. The atmosphere on and off the field was a true reflection of what community football is all about,” said Cassim.

Tournament winners

• 1st Place – Sporting FC received a R2 500 cash prize, gold medals, a champions cup trophy and a floating trophy.

• 2nd Place – Rangers received a R1 000 cash prize and silver medals.

• 3rd Place – Gunners FC received a R500 cash prize and bronze medals.

“We also hosted a friendly match between two junior teams. It was a joy to watch the next generation of footballers showcase their talent and enthusiasm, and both teams were presented with medals in recognition of their participation. To every team that entered the tournament, thank you for believing in our cause. Your support has helped Seva Bhakti Foundation continue our school lunch drive for underprivileged children, ensuring that more learners receive a nutritious meal,” said Cassim.

She further thanked sponsors, Water Jetting and Blackfly, for their invaluable support in making the tournament possible.

“A special word of appreciation also goes to all our match officials, community policing forum, volunteers and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. To our supporters, families and spectators, thank you for creating such an amazing atmosphere and cheering on every team. This tournament was about so much more than football. It was about bringing communities together, creating opportunities, and making a positive impact through sport,” concluded Cassim.
