This year's national Full Contest Martial Arts tournament was hosted by Isipingo Martial Arts, where dozens of fighters faced off against one another.

THE kicks, closed-fist punches and palm strikes journeyed to the Chatsworth Youth Centre on July 11, as Isipingo Martial Arts (IMA) fighters competed in the annual Full Contest Martial Arts national tournament.

Hosts IMA’s behind-the-scenes hard work, dedication and commitment made for a smoothly-run tournament, giving young martial artists the platform to shine against their peers.

Sensei Seggie Murugan said that 26 competitors from IMA competed against martial artists from across the country.

“Isipingo Martial Arts fighters achieved 35 gold, 49 silver and 31 bronze medals across a number of categories from hard forms, traditional sparring, points sparring and continuous sparring,” said Murugan.

Across three tatami mats, martial artists sparred as over a 100 spectators cheered the athletes on.

Chief instructor of IMA, Razak Ally, thanked all the competitors, parents, coaches and table officials in addition to the referees and judge for helping make the tournament a success.
