Umgababa sailor does well at MSC Week

Looking back after the race, Nqoba Mswazi said that sailing offshore of Durban is one of the best places to sail, but it is tricky.

UMGABABA sailor Nqoba Mswazi and his partner, Nicolene Henkeman, posted some impressive results in the 49th edition of MSC Week which was hosted by the Point Yacht Club from July 6 to 10.

The fiercely contested regatta combined ORC Nationals alongside the L26 Championships.
Their MH Performance team took the top honours in the L26 Championship and came third overall in the highly competitive fleet.

Mswazi currently works on a yacht in the Mediterranean, but the hard-working yachtsman escapes each year to return home and participate in the MSC Week. Looking back after the race, he said that sailing offshore of Durban is one of the best places to sail, but it is tricky.

“Reading the conditions, and taking a gamble as to which side of the race track you want to go, sometimes pays off,” said Mswazi.

He added that he feels like a proud father when he sees his team grow with experience.

“I caught myself often mid-sail, beaming, watching the teams race so well and pulling away from the fleet. On Orion B2G2, we started the third day sitting in sixth place and ended the week climbing the ladder to a hard-fought third place,” he said.

TNT Racing from Cape Town dominated the ORC Nationals and notched up eight wins out of the 12 races sailed.
