KZN Touch rugby stars take to the greens for junior nationals

Grassroots-level touch rugby development is KZN Touch Association's priority, and to fund those efforts, it hosted a fundraising golf day.

GROWING touch rugby in the province from grassroots level to provincial competition can be a significant financial burden and with that in mind, KZN Touch Association recently hosted a golf day fundraiser at Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy, bringing the two sports together for a good cause.

KZN Touch provides opportunities for players of all ages to compete, develop their skills and represent their province at a national level.

The association’s Sange Matebese said that the fundraiser was held to raise funds for its junior players, who head to Junior Nationals in Johannesburg this month.

“Golf was chosen as a way to bring together businesses, families, supporters and the wider community in a fun environment while raising funds for a meaningful cause. Participants enjoyed a day of golf, friendly competition, prizes and plenty of laughs, with exciting prizes on offer, including a R130 000 and R10 000 hole-in-one prize,” said Matebese.

Beyond being a fun day on the course, the event was about giving KZN Touch’s young athletes the chance to represent their province without the financial burden standing in their way.
