Oil dumped in ‘Adopt a spot’ area

MOTOR oil was dumped in bushes along Kingsway, close to Warner Beach Preparatory on Tuesday morning, 17 September.

Resident, Nichola Wilkinson was shocked to see an employee of Warner Beach Auto and Transmission, walk across the road and dump the oil, ironically near an ‘adopt a spot’ board.

The Sun went along with Nichola and found two large patches of oil running down an embankment. Oil-stained rags were discarded close-by.

“In all the man had three buckets with him. One can see the oil rings and drips on the pavement. I saw him cross the road and return with an empty bucket. I also took a photograph of him holding a bucket and saw him walk back into the business premises,” said Nichola.

Owner of the business, Shane Wepener acknowledged it was his employee who had dumped the oil. “He is new, misunderstood and did not know of the proper disposal method. We have a large container in which the old oil is collected,” said Shane. He promised the contaminated area will be cleaned-up by the end of the week.
