21 Club spreads a little sunshine to welcome Spring

Congratulations to Beryl Mandy who celebrated her 80th birthday and Debbie Anderson, her 50th in September.

MULTI-COLOURED balloons greeted 21 Club members at their Spring luncheon, which was themed 'spread a little sunshine'.

The weather played the game and pretty spring outfits abounded.

Of course the menu featured spring chicken. Chocolate dipped strawberries ensured a delicious conclusion to the meal.

Many thanks again to Jerry Gertzen of Orange River Cellars who provided rosé sparkling wine for the table lucky draws.

Guest speaker, Margaret van der Lingen is PR for Tape Aids for the Blind. This organisation, founded in 1958, provides a free audio library for blind, vision impaired and print-disabled persons and is one of the largest libraries of audio books in the Southern hemisphere. This includes over 32,000 titles (books and magazines) and caters for the 11 South African language groups. Tape recorders are supplied where needed, thus Tape Aids provided free and unlimited access to knowledge, thought, culture and information to all ages, taking into account their special needs.

Tape Aids relies on the contributions of private and corporate sources as no government or other subsidies are received.

Margaret is a dynamic speaker, who not only held 21 Club members spellbound with inspirational stories, but also had them in stitches with her amazing accents and infectious sense of humour. Margaret, who can be reached at pr@tabeaids.org.za, is willing to speak in any forum in order to encourage contributions to this worthy cause.

It was wonderful to see Wendy Ward looking so well after a significant absence.

Thoughts are with Liz Dumke who is in hospital. The club wishes her a speedy recovery.
