A VEGETABLE tunnel which turned out to be unsuitable for Jabulani Home for the Aged in Warner Beach was instead donated to Jona Vaughan Home in Toti.
“Initially I saw the tunnel at Amanzimtoti Community Upliftment Project (Amcup) and organised a raffle to buy one for Jabulani. I was devastated when it turned out to be unsuitable, as the area where it would have been placed was in shade,”said co-ordinator, Ken Baker.
Ken offered it to Jona Vaughan Home. “I want to thank everyone who supported the raffle.”
“We are grateful to Jabulani for the donation of a vegetable tunnel. The residents enjoy gardening activities as part of their stimulation. They enjoy watering the vegetables and watching them grow,” said manager of the home, Fiona Anderson.
They have grown spinach, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries and sweet pepper. “We sold some of the spinach and used some in our kitchen.”
Jona Vaughan is a project of Durban Coastal and Mental Health. The home caters for 84 children and adults with profound intellectual disabilities.
