Chaotic festive season for SPCA

AMANZIMTOTI SPCA had a hectic festive period which saw an influx of animals to its Athlone Park premises.

“It was absolutely chaotic. With fireworks being let off to celebrate New Year's, we were busy fetching lost and frightened animals in the early hours of the morning. Fortunately, no animals were injured,” said SPCA manager, Tracey Girling.

Although a number of lost animals have been claimed by their owners, more are being housed at the animal welfare organisation until they are reclaimed. “We urge owners to come down to our offices to identify their pets. As some people are still on holiday, we will keep their lost pets in out stray block for a bit longer than the usual seven days, before moving them to the adoption block.”

The influx of animals has also put a strain on the SPCA's food resources. “A lot of the food we received for the festive season has been depleted. If anyone is able to assist with donations, we will appreciate it.”
