CCPO notes drop in serious crimes

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) reported a decline in major crimes in the Toti area over the festive season.

“There was a definite decline in major crimes, although petty crime and theft out of motor vehicles was still prevalent,” said CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone.

The CCPO had some success in the fight against crime with an arrest in Ngobeni Road in Athlone Park. “A suspect broke into a house without realising the owner was home. A call to the CCPO and a chase into a nearby bush soon had the suspect trapped when the CCPO, Blue Security and ET Security cordoned off the area. The Metro Police dog unit was called and the suspect was flushed out. The stolen property, including a cage with two love birds, was returned.”

On Monday, 30 December at about 8am George Snodey noticed three suspicious characters trawling the Baggies Beach parking area in a blue Honda Ballade. “The men were held under surveillance for a while and then the information was relayed to Toti SAPS, who searched the vehicle and found items used to steal motor vehicles. The vehicle was impounded and the men arrested for further investigation.”

On the same day at about 7pm Snodey was driving past DSM Mall in Winklespruit when he noticed two men carrying speakers. After questioning the men, it was revealed the speakers had been stolen from a Madeline Road house. The suspects were arrested and taken to Toti police station with the stolen property.

On Saturday, 4 January a man broke into a Turtle Road house at about 3.30pm and stole a ladder and wheelbarrow. When he saw a CCPO vehicle responding, he ran into bushes. He was arrested and the stolen property returned. Further investigations revealed the same robber had broken into the same house previously and stolen Koi fish.

“The CCPO is doing a sterling job in fighting crime in Toti and we urge all those who are not contributing to keeping our area safe, to come on board and help us,” said Leon. “More money means more resources.” Call the CCPO on 031-903-7037.
