Vigilance pays off in attempted car thieves’ arrest

QUICK reaction by CCPO led to the arrest of two men on Friday, 24 January in connection with an attempted theft of a vehicle which occurred in Toti the previous day.

CCPO received details of the crime from a local businesswoman who had seen incident in Kingsway, Toti and provided a description of the thieves' vehicle and registration number.

The vehicle's particulars were distributed among CCPO staff and support staff.

On Friday, an alert CCPO committee member noticed the same vehicle in Athlone Park. It was kept under observation and after driving for a while in the residential area, the driver headed towards the N2.

CCPO's Leon Joone, with the help of a committee member and ET Security pulled the vehicle over in near Umgababa.

Toti police responded within minutes, arrested the two men and confiscated their Mercedes Benz.
