School outreach project arms old age home with mobility

SEVERAL businesses, representatives of Reunion Secondary School in Isipingo and other stakeholders visited eKhanana Old Age Home in Umlazi in January, where wheelchairs and walkers were handed to residents in January.

A joint delegation comprised Engen Y Motors, Umlazi Discount Hardware, Themba Masimulo of eThekwini planning department, Pastor Victor of the seniors’ home, principal of Reunion Secondary M Padayachee, teacher Zakiya Kikia-Khan and pupils.

Eleven wheelchairs and four walkers were handed over by local businessmen, Ismail Dhooma and Hassen Suleman. Pupils interacted with the senior citizens and enthusiastically assisted with the serving of meals. The sponsors pledged to continue to work closely with Reunion Secondary School, which has adopted the home as one of the beneficiaries of its social outreach programme.
