Domestic workers set to fly high
A Toti employer is flying his gardener and domestic maid to Johannesburg to have lunch.
“My gardener, Thembinkosi Shozi has worked for me for about 15 years,” said the employer, who preferred to remain anonymous. “He hasn’t been feeling well recently and while we were chatting, it came up that he had never been in an aeroplane or airport before, likewise my domestic worker, Margaret Maphumulo. They have also never seen Johannesburg, so I decided to fly them both there to have lunch at Oliver Tambo Airport and fly them back on Saturday, 15 March.”
However, when the employer mentioned his plan to two friends, who also employ Themba, they too wanted to get in on the goodwill. When they enquired about Themba and Margaret’s itinerary once they landed in Johannesburg, they offered to have the pair picked up by a Monte Casino courtesy vehicle and driven to the complex for lunch.
“We decided to rather fly them to Lanseria Airport, as it’s much smaller. After lunch they will fly back to Durban. When I told them, they both had tears in their eyes and they were overwhelmed,” said their employer.
“We are very, very excited about our first plane trip,” said Themba and Margaret. “We promise to tell the Sun readers all about our experience when we return.”
