Tourism fired up for Easter

Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism continues to flourish, thanks to civic-minded members of the public who are donating their time and expertise.

“We identified that not everyone is able to give or dedicate an one or two-year term to tourism, but people within the Sapphire Coast do want to get involved,” said chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk.

Task members take on specific tasks that need attention. They are not expected to run tasks on their own, but ‘keep the wheels turning’ for that task. “It allows us to accomplish more and as we are all volunteers in this organisation, every bit helps.

These are the people who make and will make this town a great place to visit, an experience and a place to return to. They are passionate about their town, give up many hours of their own time and without their efforts, we wouldn’t achieve much.”

Kevin Meredith is in charge of the SCTT website and online extras such as upgrades, updating, maintenance and include an events calendar. “We will assist members with creating Google ‘balloons’ that show their locations and in future would like to form a central booking facility through our website.We urgently need all event organisers, schools, forums, NGOs and any other organisation that is having an event that will attract 50 or more people to email chairman@totitourism.co.za with details of their event for our calemdar.

We are creating this facility as both an information platform, but also to prevent double bookings for events of the same nature within the Sapphire Coast.”

These are the events already on the calendar:

• Sunday, 30 March – Dick King, 21km run and 15km walk, Toti main beach, Panorama Park, Toti beach;

• 18 to 21 April – 7s rugby and music project – Toti main beach;

• Saturday, 19 April – Rapture Rave, Hutchison Park;

• Saturday, 19 April – Rockview Rondezvous;

• Saturday, 19 April – Promenade Pregnancy Resource Centre night market;

• Saturday, 3 May – Highland Gathering and Lifestyle Expo, Hutchison Park;

• Friday, 11 July – DSBF Golf Day;

• 16 to 18 October – DSBF Conference, ATKV;

• 23 to 25 October – KZNLG inter-club golf tournament, Toti golf course;

• 13 to 14 December – Summer Jams Music Festival, Kingsway;

• Wednesday, 31 December – Umgababa annual festival.

Victoria Moya is tasked with welcome signage on the N2 and R603. “We would like to welcome our visitors when they enter the Sapphire Coast from north of Twini Hill, south of Crocworld and west of Adams College.”

Wesley Pulvenis will run the verge competition. “We will continue with the verge competition to encourage residents to take ownership of their area, which in turn beautifies our town.” Wesley plans to get some great prizes on offer.

Liaan Smit is in charge of bridge painting and maintenance of the bridges. “We will continue with our bridge painting campaign. By painting our bridges, it makes us stand out from our neighbours, shows our visitors there is something different about us and it brightens up the bridges.”

There are still many things Toti’s tourism comittee would like to achieve, so if you want to get involved, email chairman@totitourism.co.za.
