Crime scourge was well portrayed

EDITOR – The Sunday night exposé on Carte Blanche gave well-presented, objective coverage of the lack of SAPS intervention on the near parasitic scourge of crime in Amanzimtoti.
The attitude portrayed by the regional police head is absolutely appalling and quite honestly, insulting.
Just to add my two cents on the mountain of stories that have surfaced, I was hijacked at gunpoint on 2 April, 2012 in my driveway.
Even though the initial police response was prompt and quite surprisingly professional, my experience with Amanzimtoti SAPS thereafter was quite honestly miserable. Apart from eventually spending a year driving an unlicensed vehicle, due to an SAP error, I’ve had zero follow up on my case, even after I sent my investigating officer a copy of my call list with telephone numbers the hijackers called from my stolen contract phone numerous times over a period of two days.
I attempted calling my investigating officer over 40 times in two years, with no response – he’s somehow on never-ending annual leave. I resorted to contacting the police minister in 2013, whose office responded promptly and aided me in licensing my vehicle and attempted to escalate my case which Toti SAP had since closed without contacting me.
Even when a group of hijackers were captured early this year, I offered to help identify if they weren’t involved in my hijacking so as to help strengthen the case. Toti SAP failed to respond to my offer.
Toti SAP is nothing but a glorified tea-club.
