Lightning cracks balcony wall

Lightning struck metres from where a young man was standing.

A young man received the shock of his life when lightning struck his balcony wall, metres away from where he was standing in his Winklespruit home during Tuesday’s storm, just after 5pm.

Dale Brown (21) was home alone in his third-floor Andante Villas flat he shares with his father, Darren when the lightning struck.

“I was in my room, about to unplug my computer when it happened,” he said. “It was an extremely loud, but very quick bang, like dynamite.

I felt dizzy and disorientated. My first thought was it was really close, but only when I went out onto the balcony, did I see it had struck our wall.”

The force of the strike cracked the wall where it had entered and exited.
