TEN-YEAR-OLD Sadie Harishka Tagat of Illovo is a musical maestro in the making, as she looks forward to the launch of her first CD on Friday, 4 April. The devotional CD, entitled ‘Bhakthi Paatalu’ is sung in Telegu and Sanskrit, and comprises a number of songs dedicated not only to the ‘Divine Mother’, but mothers everywhere. “I am really excited about the CD, as I enjoy performing in front of people,” said a shy Sadie. The grade 5 pupil attends Illovo Primary School and started singing at the tender age of five. “My dad inspired me to take up singing.” Her dad, Gopie along with her mom, siblings and grandmother are part of a devotional bhajan service group. They sing at various functions including funerals and memorials and have travelled to Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and plans are in the pipeline for a visit to Cape Town. “As we have travelled extensively with the group, people became enthralled with Sadie’s voice and we received numerous requests for a CD,” said Gopie. Sadie has won a singing competition hosted by the Mount Edgecombe Marriammen Temple and has also performed at a women’s day event broadcast by Radio Lotus. The CD launch takes place at the Enchanted Gardens at Clairwood Racecourse at 6.30pm. A limited number of tickets are on sale at R100 per person. The evening is a cultural one, comprising Eastern and Western entertainment and includes supper. CDs will also be on sale. Sadie, also a keen dancer, is looking forward to the release of a second CD. Her future plans are to study to become a doctor, but she plans to continue singing.
