Groups of armed robbers make off with 3 cars in the Montclair policing area.

A GROUP of hijackers made the rounds in Montclair and Woodlands, making off with three vehicles and in the process, killed a man.

A passenger of a white VW Polo was shot and killed by two armed hijackers at the corner of South Coast and Blamey roads in the early hours of Saturday morning, 5 July.

The man and his partner, who are from Clare Estate, were on their way home after dropping off a relative in Ronald Road, Montclair. While they were making their way down Blamey Road, the man requested his partner to pull-over so he could buy a cigarette lighter.

She stopped and he went to buy the lighter. As he was leaving the shop, two armed men pounced on him and shot him in the head and chest. After which, one of them headed to the driver’s side of the vehicle and dragged the woman out. Both men entered the vehicle and sped off.

The vehicle, which did not have a tracking device has not yet been recovered. No arrests have been made.

Two days earlier, two armed men robbed a Woodlands man of his Toyota Corrolla. The man had parked his vehicle outside his Langton Road home, while he spoke to his domestic helper. As he was speaking to her, two men approached him, one brandishing a firearm. They demanded his car keys before they fled.

Fortunately for the Woodlands man, his vehicle was recovered in Isipingo and a man has been arrested in connection with the hijacking.

On Wednesday, 2 July, three men made off with a VW Polo from Geraghty Road, Montclair. The owner was parking when three armed men approached him. He was assaulted and beaten with the back of a gun on his head and elbow before the man took his vehicle. No shots were fired.
