Colin and Bobby win ABC 2-4-2

The key game has started on Friday evenings, and Delysia Mitchley’s number was the first one drawn.

IT’S been a relatively quiet week at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club with only eight competition games and two monthly games played, apart from the usual ‘tabs-in’ weekly social bowls.

In senior singles games, Denise Bingham took an early lead over Marion Crouch.

Marion made a strong come-back to peel on the 19th and 21st ends, however, Denise managed to put down the final two shots needed to win. Val de Kok defeated Liz Morgan-Davies; and after trailing until the 11th end, Boet Els surged ahead to beat Alf Bingham. In another game of two halves, Peter Barnes lead to the 14th end, then Vish Studinski overtook him to win the game.

In handicap singles Amanda Ninow held her lead until the 12th end, but Barbara Beamson played her usual consistent bowls to pull ahead and win. In men’s novices Dave McMillan lost to Peter Snyman; Jeff van Belkum lost to Mike Pitchers and Ben Venter defeated Beni Chirkoot.

The winners of the mixed 2-4-2 were Colin Coetzee and Bobby Stewart on a 4+30. Runners-up were Peter Callaghan and Robyn Hutton, with Keith Berry and Vera Broskie getting 1st session prize, and Glen Scorgie and Michelle Pitchers winning the 2nd session. Many thanks go to Allen Hawkins for the generous prizes.

The men’s mutton competition was won this month by the team of Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Guelfo Cobianchi and Owen Turner on 4+25. The runners-up were Clive Hambley, Eric Klopper, Sean Roberts and Dave Lombard. Second session went to Glen Scorgie, T Morgan, Les (Snoopy) Brown and Dave McMillan. In the women’s competition Julie Sutherland, Nita Meumann, Amanda Ninow and Jennifer Greenslade took the honours on 4+12, with the team of Elsie Walker, Yvonne Wright, Maureen van der Poel and Debbie Groom as runners-up. Second session went to Mardi Dovale, Jacqui Fouché, Denise Bingham and Linda McGregor. The 100’s board winner was Robyn Hutton.

The key game has started on Friday evenings, and Delysia Mitchley’s number was the first one drawn. Unfortunately her key did not fit the box, which means one key has been eliminated. Tickets for the game are R10 each, and if you are not present, a committee member will draw a key for you. The attendance draw has also started again. Ron Greenslade’s number came up, but he was unfortunately not present. Next week’s draw is worth R250.

Last, but not least, ABC wishes ‘good bowling’ to the open singles champions Ian Crouch and Jennifer Greenslade as they play in the Port Natal Champion of Champions competition at the weekend.

Birthday greetings this week go to Alex Clark, Joan Gordon Hughes, Robin Donald, Dave Lombard and Vera Broskie, and a speedy recovery is wished for all members who may be in poor health. The club hopes to see everyone back on the greens again soon.
