Sani walk to help little cancer fighter
The draws will take place after the walk and winners will be published on Emma's Facebook page: Emma's Dream.
Seven Toti women will tackle the CHOC Sani Walk on Women’s Day on Saturday, 9 August to raise funds and awareness for 18-month-old cancer-sufferer, Emma de Vries.
They will be joined by two Pietermaritzburg women in their walk from the South African border post, eight kilometres up to the highest pub in Africa, then returning to the border post.
“Angela Carr-Hartley and I did the walk last year,” said Annemarie Buytendag. “It is not a race, it is to raise funds for children suffering from cancer. Tracy Hair ran the Comrades Marathon for Emma this year, so we decided to do the walk for her.”
Entrants pay a fee to CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation) to raise funds for young cancer-sufferers. Annemarie got local businesses to sponsor prizes of vouchers and the public can buy R10 raffle tickets from either her on 083-277-8816 or Tracy on 082-856-8711 before they leave on Friday. Donations are also welcome.
The draws will take place after the walk and winners will be published on Emma’s Facebook page: Emma’s Dream.
“It’s not an easy walk, but once you reach the top, it feels good and it’s a sense of achievement. It will be extra special that we are doing it on Women’s Day. As it is raising funds for children and cancer, it makes it all the more worthwhile and since Emma is from Toti, it is close to home for us.”
