Policemen arrested for colleague’s murder

They are in custody, pending further investigation

THREE people, including two police officers, appeared in Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of a policeman on Monday, 25 August.
They were remanded in custody until 1 September pending further investigation.

“On 2 August, Cst Nkanyiso Ngcobo (29) stationed at Durban Central went missing on the Berea. A missing docket was opened at Berea police station and an intensive search was conducted. On 19 August his body was found with gunshot wounds in a shallow grave at Magabheni in Umkomaas,” said Capt Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre.

A case of murder was opened and the Hawks took over the investigation. Despite the developments, the motive for his killing is still unknown.
Through hard work by members, suspects Cst Qobolwakhe Mqadi (35), Cst Mthobisi Ndlovu (29) and his brother Sizwe Ndlovu (28) were arrested and linked to the killing of Ngcobo.

The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni strongly condemned such an attack on police officers and commended the good work done by the Hawks that led to the men’s arrests.
“It is shocking that a police officer was brutally killed in such a manner and even more disturbing is that he was allegedly killed by our own members. We send condolences to family, friends and colleagues of Cst Ngcobo. The loss of a police officer is not only a loss to the SAPS and the family, but the community as well,’ she said.
