Colourful golden oldies games give seniors reason to smile

The spirit trophy was awarded to Jabulani.

SENIOR citizens who participated in the Golden Oldies Games at Mooi Hawens over three days last week had an amazing time with fun games and a fancy dress parade.

The five teams who battled it out for glory were Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre, Jabulani, Residentia, Ezimangweni and a community team.

Seniors egged their team mates on and the competitive spirit was high.

The winners in the group games are: Duck walk, Residentia; pass the ball, Residentia; ring the stick; Ezimangweni; ball kick and bounce, Jabulani.

In the fancy dress competition winners are:

The funniest person, ‘retired hooker’, Michael Joubert of Jabulani; the most original person, ‘recycled teenager, Bettie McCarthy of Jabulani; the most daring person, ‘the undertaker’, Marie Holman of Jabulani and the cutest person, ‘Maggie May’ went to Sharon-Ann Theron of the community team.

Individual games winners:

* Ball in the bucket: 60 to 69 years, David Herbert of Jabulani; 70 to 79 years, Olive Spenceley of Poinsettia Park and 80 years and over, Ken Pollard of Poinsettia.

* Gholf bakatel: 60 to 69 years, Michael Joubert of Jabulani; 70 to 79 years, Edda Drapal of Residentia and in the 80 years and over, Sheila Lambert of Residentia.

* Rings for points: 60 to 69 years, Graham Bram of the community team; 70 to 79 years, Bettie McCarthy of Jabulani and 80 years and over, Pieter Wepener of Residentia.

* Washing line fun: 60 to 69 years, David Herbert of Jabulani; 70 to 79 years, Beth Schrawen of Poinsettia and 80 years and over, Sheila Lambert of Residentia.

* Beanbag in the bucket: 60 to 69 years, Sandra Perrius of Poinsettia; 70 to 79 years, Lorraine Gomes of Poinsettia and 80 years and over, Bobby Stewart of Poinsettia.

* Ring the broomstick: 60 to 69 years, David Herbert of Jabulani; 70 to 79 years, Olive Spenceley of Poinsettia and 80 years and over, Ken Pollard of Poinsettia.

The spirit trophy was awarded to the Jabulani team.
