Unrestrained child is a death waiting to happen

Do you park your car in a garage, safe and snug? I’m sure you do.

EDITOR – I’m stunned. I have a question for the parent in the metallic green MPV travelling past Galleria towards the fire station on Tuesday, 11 November.

How negligent do you have to be not to realise that an unrestrained child is a death waiting to happen?

Even worse, your child was in the ‘boot’ area of your vehicle, looking out the back window and you had just traveled on a backed-up N2 with vehicles stopping suddenly every few minutes. A rear-end impact from any of those cars behind you would have ended your child’s life in a second.

Is the most precious possession in your life really worth less than R1,500? This is the average cost of a good car seat. Sadly, unrestrained children are a common sight. To all those parents, wake up. This Christmas, why not buy your child the best present you could ever buy them, a good car seat.

Do you park your car in a garage, safe and snug? I’m sure you do.
