Toti rallies around Jabulani lights project

Participate in a walk on Sunday,14 June

THE community is rallying together to light up the homes of residents of Jabulani Home for the Aged in Warner Beach, when load shedding hits the 12 storey building.

Operation Jabulani Light was launched last week with Neil Fabricius and Reena Solomon in the driving seat.

A businessman, Neil wanted to give back to community and chose to help the elderly. He organised collection points for rechargeable lights, torches and batteries.

Reena joined in and has organised a 2km ‘walk in the park’ at Hutchison Park.

“Cash donations have come in, which will go towards the bulk purchase of lights,” said Jabulani’s Beth Duncan.

The community has also come to the fore. “We have two raffle prizes up for grabs. A beautiful duvet set made by one of the residents of Jabulani, coffee machine and toaster. There are lucky draw prizes for those participating in the walk. I have vouchers from Jaxx Creative Hairstyling for a cut and blow dry and a cake and 12 cupcakes from the Crazy Cake Lady. Hopefully more will follow,” said Reena.

On Friday, 5 June raffle tickets will be on sale at Kingsburgh Centre in Winklespruit and Clear Water Spur at Toti main beach.

Jabulani is home to 81 residents in 70 units. About 120 rechargeable lights are needed for the units, stairwells and passages.

Entry is free to the walk on Sunday, 14 June at 2pm. But donations of batteries (any size), cash donations to buy lights, new or used (in working order) rechargeable LED lights are needed.

If unable to join in on the day, drop-off points for donations are Power World and Pumps in Toti CBD and Pam Golding in Warner Beach.

Cash donations can be deposited in the following bank account:

  • Nedbank;
  • account name: KWOFTA;
  • branch code: 198-765;
  • account number: 205-704-9183.
  • The reference is ‘Lights’.
