Creche forum kicks off in Isipingo
Forum calls on people operating facilicities for children to join.
BASED on the success and good practice of the Wentworth ECD Forum, the South Durban Basin (SDB) ABM commissioned Save the Children to set-up an Isipingo ECD Forum.
The KZN departments of social development, health and education are encouraging the formation of community and area ECD forums.
Through the hard work and perseverance of two ECD champions, Roslyn Sandalamo and Molly Govender,15 enthusiastic and excited women from various ECD centres, daycare centres and pre-schools met for their first ECD forum meeting at the Isipingo Beach community centre recently.
The meeting was attended by the Isipingo Clinic supervisor, Sister Gcina Shoba, staffers Maria Mthembu and Agnes Mazibuko; Wentworth ECD practitioners who are trained as facilitators by the department of education on the New Curriculum Framework; Londiwe Magwaza of social development and Gail Richards of Save the Children SA.
“Our aim is to work closely with local and provincial authorities whose mandate is caring for the young child and to accomplish improved, quality ECD services, so our children benefit the most from our efforts. Those operating crèches, community ECD centres or home playcentres in Isipingo are invited to join our forum so that together, we can make a difference in the lives of our children,” said co-ordinator, Roslyn Sandalamo.
Eurakha Singh, development manager of the SDB ABM was pleased with the launch of the Isipingo ECD Forum. “Through the ECD forum, young children in Isipingo will have a greater opportunity to realise their full potential as the foundation laid in the ECD services will have an impact throughout their lives.”
