City plans its response to load shedding

Load assessments have been completed for several departments.

AS PART of eThekwini Municipality’s Business Continuity Management and Continuity Strategies Implementation Plan, to avoid a total halt of municipal service delivery during load shedding, the city has come up with load shedding intervention response strategies.

This emerged last week during the sitting of a multi-department Disaster Management Advisory Forum which was chaired by city manager, Sibusiso Sithole.

Sithole said even though Eskom has announced there won’t be any load shedding until May next year, the municipality has completed a load assessment for fire and emergency services, all municipal clinics and Sizakala Centres to avoid interruption of services.

“The load assessment for the water and sanitation unit is still in progress. We don’t want our services to be interrupted during load shedding. Out of the 60 municipal clinics, we plan to have five clinics per region with alternate power,” said Sithole.
