Rapist robber jailed for 28 years

They tied her hands and feet with strips of material and two of the men brutally raped her, while the third searched the house for valuables.

A rapist and robber received a total of 28 years imprisonment in Umlazi Regional Court for his part in an attack on a 22-year-old woman in 2013.

In February of that year the woman was alone at home watching television with her two-year-old baby when three men entered her lounge.

“Two were armed with knives and one with a stick with which they threatened and demanded money and a firearm from her,” said Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

“When she replied that she had neither, they tied her hands and feet with strips of material and two of the men brutally raped her, while the third searched the house for valuables.

They took a DVD player and fled the scene on foot.”

Cases of house robbery and rape were opened and investigated by Detective W/O KD Zungu.

“One of the men, Sipho Nhlaka Hlophe (31) was arrested and positively linked to the crime via DNA,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.

He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for the house robbery, 10 years for the rape and 15 years’ imprisonment for aggravated robbery.

“The management of Amanzimtoti SAPS applauds Detective W/O KD Zungu who secured this successful conviction,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.
