Goat’s chicken ‘mother’ now a grandmother
Lilo adopted a chicken as her mother after she was rejected by her mother.
LILO, the dwarf Cameroon goat at Crocworld Conservation Centre, is a now a proud mommy after she gave birth to a male kid on 3 July.
The Sun featured Lilo in an article last year. She was born a twin, but was unfortunately rejected by her mother at birth in August and had to be hand-reared by Crocworld staff from day one. Staff noticed Lilo was being butted away by her mother whenever she went to drink from her.
She ended up following one of the large chickens that shared the enclosure with the goats and adopted this chicken as her mother.

Despite her rocky start, the love and care shown to Lilo saw her thrive at the centre. “This latest addition was particular cause for celebration as it is often unlikely for a goat that has been rejected by its own mother to develop maternal instincts,” said Crocworld Conservation Centre manager, Martin Rodrigues. “It’s pleasing to see how Lilo has taken to looking after her little boy.”
Crocworld invites the public to name Lilo’s kid by entering the naming competition on the ‘Crocworld Conservation Centre’ Facebook page.
