Onwards and upwards for CCPO in 2017

The challenges were really worth it as the CCPO for the first time will provide CCPO-trained guards to all our clients without going through a service provider.

EDITOR – I thank the community who have kindly supported the CCPO’s cause in the fight against crime.

Our members that have given us the opportunity to provide this unique crime fighting force which is admired by many South Africans.

The past eight months have been extremely challenging in that we as a committee have had to make serious decisions in order to correct and turn the financial situation around. In this I thank the CCPO committee for the tireless work put into achieving this goal. The committee met for many hours weekly in order to find the best solutions by forward planning and thinking to continue this worthy cause.

We negotiated far cheaper rates with our service providers in order to make our funds go further, together with bringing the guarding sector in-house to make further savings in excess of R100,000 per month. The planning and organising of this compliance with the regulators was achieved by dedicated committee members together with our new security consultant, Eugene Engelbrecht.

The challenges were really worth it as the CCPO for the first time will provide CCPO-trained guards to all our clients without going through a service provider. We believe that the hard work will pay dividends as the guarding will be linked to our reaction members, thus providing a more secure and effective security service to the area. At present the operations team is looking at providing a more sophisticated radio system which will replace the analogue system with a new digital system. The system will be operated among 44 guards and security personnel, thus providing the CCPO with a highly effective and efficient communication system which is paramount to our success. We thank the community who have kindly volunteered to sponsor radios as this will assist the CCPO in the purchase of this new system.

These savings we have achieved will help us provide more guards on the ground and will sustain the CCPO operation going forward.

Special thanks to Amanzimtoti SAPS station commander, Bonginkosi Nkabinde and his team for the sterling effort in assisting ourselves in the fight against crime, together with the Metro management Lucas De Bruyn and Hennie Nel and his team for the combined effort in making it more difficult for criminals to do business in our area.

I would like to wish all our members and the community a prosperous New Year and would ask all the residents who are not members to make a serious effort to join this amazing crime fighting organisation.

Together we can move forward in eliminating crime.

GEORGE LITHGOW

CCPO chairman
